Lacquerware
Lacquerware
has been used in several Asian cultures for many years. Burmese
lacquerware is an artistic tradition that is used in everything from
utilitarian vessels to Buddhist manuscripts and architectural installations.
The lacquer is a resin that comes from a tree common in many areas of
southeast Asia. Once the resin has left the tree it turns a glossy black.
Vietnam produces contemporary
lacquerware that is beautiful and quite useful in today’s home.
